Auckland Council is commencing work on their spatial plan. Make sure you have your say on surfing on the Auckland Region’s coastline. The regional plans will be crucial for surfbreak policy inclusions as there are no, recognised as significant, surfbreaks in national policy.
Auckland Council is asking for as wider views as possible before putting together the long term spatial plan for the region. So far there has not been any mention of surfbreaks in any publicity so it will be up to as many surfers as possible in the surfing community to submit..
You may recall that there are no nationally significant surfbreaks in the NZCPS (New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement) legislation in the Auckland region. This makes their inclusion in regional plans that much more crucial.
