South Island surfer and environmental advocate dies

Surfbreak Protection wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of Christchurch surfer and environmental campaigner Jonathan McCarthy, who died on 24th June 2009.

Jonathan was a founding member of the Sumner Longboarders and a passionate environmentalist, known for his long standing campaign against proposed mussel farms at Christchurch and more recently his support for Policy 20 in the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement review. A celebration of Jonathan’s life was held at Woolston, on Wednesday 1st July. Messages to the family c/o P.O. Box 17582, Sumner.
