 Surfbreak Protection Monthly Updates

As of next month our monthly updates will resume on the 15th of every month, and we will be keeping you briefed on a number of issues that go to the core of Surfbreak Protection  in New Zealand. SPS plan to cement the preservation of surfbreaks even further, we will release our strategy early in the new year, so stay logged in to our monthly updates and make sure your mates are too by signing up at the bottom of our homepage.

Aramoana And Whareakeake Improving In Wave Quality;

Napier Puts Controversial Breakwater On Hold;

The high calibre of submissions from surfers and the local community to Napier City Council’s consent application to build a breakwater on City Reef has forced the council to rethink their approach to coastal erosion at Whakarire Ave, see our news article online here

The Lowdown on Whangamata’s Dirty Water What you need to know before surfing one of New Zealand’s best surfbreaks this summer.

SPS will be posting a video on youtube of heavy nutrient loading in the Moanaanuanu estuary just under the wastewater plant and upstream of the Whangamata Bar. The scum occurred before and after Labour Weekend but not during… This is a typical phenomena for holiday weekends at Whangamata- giving the impression that these are in fact managed events.

 SPS made a formal complaint to Waikato regional Council and inquiries with TCDC and the District Health Board despite our requests all agencies remain silent and do not return our calls or emails…
