For the last 20 – 30 years the Waitara community, including surfers has been calling for a Sewage pipeline to avoid (treated) effluent from poluting the coastal area. This issue has reached another head with the latest Taranaki Regional Council consent application to continue pumping sewage offshore.

The community has been continually frustrated by a lack of local and regional council commitment to spend the money to build a substantial pipeline to mitigate the effects on our environment, of increasing volumes of effluent being pumped in to the Tasman Sea at Waitara.
